Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batsman, Mohammad Rizwan achieved a historic feat as he became the highest T20I scorer in a calendar year. Rizwan achieved the record during the second T20I against West Indies as he helped Pakistan to a seven-run victory over the hosts.
Rizwan continued his sublime form and scored 46 runs off 36 balls including 2 fours and 2 sixes. His magnificent innings helped Pakistan achieve a 1-0 lead in the four-match T20I series.
The flamboyant wicket-keeper batsman has been in red hot form over the past year. He has already scored 752 runs in T20Is in 2021, the most for any player in a calendar year. Rizwan surpassed Irish batsman, Paul Stirling, who held the record for most T20I runs in a calendar year as he scored 748 runs in 2019.
The 29-year old’s 752 runs so far have come at an average of 94.00 and a strike rate of 140.03 in 14 innings. His amazing run has included seven half-centuries and an exceptional century. He has also struck 25 sixes, the second most in 2021 so far.
Rizwan will be looking to add to his tally further with Pakistan scheduled to face New Zealand, and England before the T20 World Cup in October. Pakistan still has a minimum of 10 T20I matches left to play in the calendar year and judging by Rizwan’s form, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he becomes the first batsman to score 1,000 T20I runs in a calendar year.
